Week 4: Med and Art

Image
This week the focus is the relationship between art, medicine, and technology. One thing I learned is that in many cases, is that art is a tool utilized in technology to make technology a better experience and to make it easier to use. For example, the CT scan is a tool utilized to image a person's body. In this sense, technology is utilized for the purpose of diagnosing a person's well-being. The aspect of art comes from the design of the CT scan. The whole design of the CT scan consists of a donut shares machine and a bench that goes in between. The scanning machine(donut-shaped) shape allows for people to be inside and with the bench, specialists can be able to move a person's position. Due to this, doctors can center the Ct scan to the desired area where they have an interest in imaging. At the core, the CT scan scans several x-rays at once from different angles. The rotating functionality of the CT scan allows this to be effectively done. Overall,  technology is used ...

Weekly Blog 3: Robotics

Image
Robotics has had a great deal with art. One main observation I learned is that art determines the perception people have of robots. There are individuals who believe that robots are beneficial for a more effective lifestyle and can help can accomplish many goals that can be challenging for humans. An example of this is based on the lecture video, where  Professor Machiko Kusahara discusses how robots can be used for emergencies. Robots can be used to save people in fires as a specific example. People can have a negative perception of robots, mainly like in western society. These perceptions come based on ways robots can negatively impact lifestyle and even safety. One example is how robots are going to become intelligent enough to fight against humanity. This perception is widely seen in many sci-fi movies. One western movie that goes over this view is "I Robot." This movie goes over how advanced robots can be mass-produced. However, the movie mainly focuses on how robots, i...

Event #1: Oragami Revolution

Image
Today, April 6th, I attended my first event. This event was over zoom, and the main focus was watching a documentary. The event consisted of watching a video on another website(the documentary was not screen shared by the TA) The video introduced Origami, the art of folding.   One may believe that origami art is the art of folding paper, which is true. When thinking about origami, the first thing that would typically come in mind is the swan. However, the video showed very complex 3d models of very complex figures. Origami can be manifested in other ways. This art can be implemented in space travel for example. A telescope can have panels that can fold themselves.  Origami can even be found in nature. It never came to my mind that origami art is even present simply by going outside. Flowers, for example, are an example of this.  One thing I learned is that computers can be utilized to create origami. Scientists can use computers to print out ...

Week Two: Arts and Math

Image
This week I have gained new insight into how math influences art. I learned that art really has a huge reliance on mathematics. This has been shown heavily throughout history, where artist and architecture base their creations on math. (The references from this insight come from the lecture video and website ). Another insight is the ranges of application where math can affect arts. I would not expect mathematics to affect music. Math is utilized to measure various compositions in music such as vibrations. (reference is a website).                                                                 Greek Architecture An example of an artist that utilized math in art was Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo was part of the evolution of how history has been filled with new advancements. By new advancements, I...
